Why you need the exact color code

You have a logo, a screenshot of a competitor's site or a photo from a client, and you need its colors for a website, a presentation or an ad. The original design files are missing, and nobody remembers which green the brand actually uses. Guessing by eye, or picking "something close" in a color dialog, is how most people try to solve it.

What happens when colors are guessed

Eyeballed colors are almost never right. A button that's two shades off the logo makes a site look unfinished, and every new page drifts a little further from the brand. Text colors chosen by feel often fail contrast requirements, which makes pages harder to read and can hurt accessibility. And when someone finally notices, every graphic, stylesheet and document has to be fixed again.

How this image color picker solves it

  1. Open your image. Choose a file, drag it onto the page or paste a screenshot with Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on a Mac).
  2. Zoom in with the loupe. As you move over the picture, a magnifier shows the individual pixels, so you can hit the exact one you want, even on thin lines and small text.
  3. Click to pick. The color appears as HEX, RGB, HSL, HSV and CMYK. Copy any format with one click and paste it into CSS, Figma, Canva, Photoshop or Word.
  4. Check contrast and variations. See the WCAG contrast ratio against white and black text, plus lighter tints and darker shades for hover states and backgrounds.
  5. Grab the whole palette. The tool extracts the 8 main colors of the image automatically and copies them as CSS custom properties ready for your stylesheet.

Free, private and without sign-up

The image color picker is free, has no usage limits and doesn't require an account. Your image is opened by your own browser and is never uploaded to our server, which makes it safe for unreleased designs and confidential screenshots. Files up to 25 MB in any format your browser can display are supported; very large images are scaled to 4,096 pixels on the longest side. The colors you pick are kept only in this browser, so you can come back to them later.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get the color code from an image?

Upload the image with the button above, drag it onto the page or paste it with Ctrl+V. Move the pointer over the picture to see a magnified preview, then click the pixel you want. The color appears in HEX, RGB, HSL, HSV and CMYK, each with a copy button.

Is my image uploaded to your server?

No. The image is opened and read by your own browser with the HTML canvas. It is never sent to UptimeStats or anyone else, and it disappears when you close or reload the page.

Which image formats are supported?

Any format your browser can display: PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF and SVG in current browsers. Files up to 25 MB are accepted; very large images are scaled down to 4,096 pixels on the longest side before picking.

How does the image palette work?

The tool groups similar pixels together (k-means clustering on a downscaled copy of the image) and shows the 8 most representative colors with the share of the image each one covers. It's a quick way to pull a color scheme from a photo, logo or screenshot.

Are the CMYK values accurate for printing?

They're a mathematical conversion from RGB without a color profile, which is fine for a rough idea but not for professional print work. For print, convert the color in your design software with the ICC profile your printer uses.

Can I pick a color from outside the image?

In Chrome, Edge and other browsers that support the EyeDropper API, a "Pick from screen" button appears. It lets you pick any color visible on your screen, including other windows.

Is the image color picker free?

Yes, completely free, with no account and no limit on how many colors you pick. The colors you pick are remembered only in your own browser so you can come back to them.
