The problem

Websites go down quietly

A server crashes at night, a certificate expires, a DNS change goes wrong. Unless someone tells you, you usually find out from a customer, hours later.

Visitors leave and don't come back

People who hit an error page rarely wait. They go back to the search results and choose someone else.

Sales and leads are lost

Every minute your checkout, booking form or contact page is unreachable is a minute where nobody can buy from you.

Search engines notice errors

Crawlers that repeatedly receive server errors may slow down crawling, and prolonged outages can affect how your pages are indexed.

The solution

A second pair of eyes on your website, day and night

UptimeStats checks your website automatically and tells you the moment a problem is confirmed, so you can fix it before most visitors notice.

Free uptime monitoring

Monitor up to 5 websites at no cost. No trial period and no credit card.

Automatic checks every 5 minutes

We request your page around the clock and record whether it responded and how fast.

Confirmed downtime detection

A failed check is re-tested before we call it an outage, which keeps false alarms to a minimum.

Email alerts

One email when an outage is confirmed and another when your website is back. No alert storms.

Uptime history

See uptime percentages, daily availability and a timeline of every incident.

Response time tracking

Charts of how quickly your server responds help you spot slowdowns before they become outages.

When something breaks

What happens when your website goes down

We designed alerts to be trustworthy: a failure is confirmed before you hear about it, you get one email when the outage starts and one when it's over.

Example outage timeline: a check at 10:00 succeeds, the 10:05 check fails, a confirmation check at 10:06 also fails so an incident opens and one downtime email is sent, checks continue every 5 minutes without repeat emails, and at 10:21 the site recovers and one recovery email is sent. An alert you can act on immediately

  • The exact reason: timeout, DNS failure, SSL error, refused connection or the HTTP error code
  • The time the outage started, taken from the first failed check
  • A direct link to the incident and the website's history
  • A matching recovery email with the total downtime when it's resolved

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is UptimeStats really free?

Yes. The Free plan lets you monitor up to 5 websites with checks every 5 minutes, email alerts and 7 days of detailed history at no cost. No credit card is required. If you need more, Pro monitors up to 50 websites every minute for US$ 4.99 per month (R$ 24,90 per month in Brazil).

How does UptimeStats decide that my website is down?

Every 5 minutes we request your page and measure the response. A response with an HTTP 2xx or 3xx status counts as up. Errors such as timeouts, DNS failures, TLS problems or 4xx and 5xx status codes count as failures. Before we declare an outage we run a confirmation check about a minute later, which avoids alerts for one-off network blips.

Will I get an email every 5 minutes while my site is down?

No. You receive one alert when an outage is confirmed and one when your website recovers. The incident stays open in your dashboard in between.

Why do I need to verify my email address?

Alerts are only useful if they reach you. Verification proves the address is yours and prevents anyone from signing up other people. Monitoring starts as soon as you confirm.

Does monitoring slow down my website?

No. One lightweight request every 5 minutes is far less traffic than a single visitor. We read the response headers and at most 64 KB of the page, then close the connection.

Can I monitor websites behind a login or on a private network?

We check publicly reachable http:// and https:// addresses. For security reasons, private, local and reserved network addresses cannot be monitored.
